In recent studies, findings show that the average VoIP provider can not only gain greater control over their DID’s but in most cases, it can also result in a significant increase in profit.

In 2016, the FCC changed the rule regarding qualifications for carriers who wish to manage their own DIDs. Prior to this ruling, only CLECs and ILECs could directly control DIDs, handle porting, gain access to local number pooling, and register to 911. Later in the year, the order was extended to VoIP and Wireless Carriers who register and qualify under the guidelines. In short, a VoIP or Wireless Carrier must be an Interconnected Carrier – either by their own infrastructure, or through interconnection agreements, and show proof that they can and will conform to the Numbering Database guidelines for managing the DIDs they possess.

Providers looking to enter this space, and take control of their numbering assets, are faced with an uphill regulatory battle on top of new administrative challenges. While it is now possible for VoIP and Wireless Carriers, the underlying requirements and procedural changes can be daunting and out of reach for most businesses without significant financial investment.

Porting.com has teamed up with Global Strategic Accountants, LLC (www.gsaudits.com) and Peerless Network(www.peerlessnetwork.com) to unveil a simplified method for VoIP and Wireless Carriers to scale their businesses through new revenue channels, reduced overhead, and enhanced control of their most important asset – numbers. For numbers that are “off net” you still will have the ability to view and control activities with this program.

In a recent study performed by Global Strategic Accountants, LLC, a business with 15,000 DIDs under contract and 500 ports per month would realize an estimated monthly savings of $10,770. With return on investment being achieved in 2.79 months, the business would see an estimated $99,240 first year benefit and $116,172 benefit in the second year to devote towards additional support for managing the DIDs inhouse.

Telecom Licensing – An Asset to Your Business

Did you know that Licensing for a telecom is not a Necessary Evil rather it is an asset! FCC and state level Public Utility Commissions are very clear on who and how a carrier must be registered. And most regulating municipalities are no different. All want to know who are performing necessary communications to their constituency.

But, for the well informed and well planned enterprise, this is an opportunity. By planning for and recouping the cost of jurisdictional registration, licensing and reporting a carrier builds its foundation of business on solid grounds. Those that do not act appropriately spend more money than planned defending their inaction (something we will discuss in a future blog). Yes. Licensing is an asset. How do we know? Recovery Fee…. Reap What You Sow

All Telecommunications Carriers per FCC regulations are allowed to provision a Regulatory Recovery Fee.  This fee is generally used to recover the costs of staying compliant.  Essentially it is an administrative fee, and as such may be subject to indirect taxes and potentially other regulatory fees.

There is specific truth in billing rules that dictate what a carrier must disclose to their clients, and specific rules around what a carrier can and cannot include in a recovery fee.  Additionally, there are specific guidelines and methods as to how the fee can be calculated.

The bottom line is that a carrier can create a revenue stream to recoup expenses and fees incurred as a compliant carrier.  Most importantly, as with any billing item, specific books and records that support calculation methods, amounts collected, tax and fee liabilities must be created and maintained to support the client in an audit.
