Global Strategic Accountants LLC Announces New

RBO® TEM Telecom Expense Management Services

for the Wholesale and Resale Carrier Market

  • Eliminate Overcharges from Carriers to Resellers
  • Find Unbilled Services from Resellers to Customers
  • Automated SaaS Replaces Manual Carrier Invoice and Contract Auditing

ATLANTA RBO® TEM (Telecom Expense Management) from Global Strategic Accountants LLC is a software-as-a-service product that systematically audits invoices from wholesale telecom carriers such as AT&T and Verizon as well as independent and local exchange carriers or resellers. TEM replaces manual efforts and ensures that resellers are not double-taxed and that the correct regulatory rules are applied to the bills.

“The worst scenario for carriers is to realize that they have been overcharged and were not able to recoup the costs because the time limit to claim those extra costs expired. RBO® TEM helps us challenge billing errors before the bill payment is even due,” said Samantha Maqueo, executive vice president of professional and corporate services, Global Strategic Accountants LLC. “Our reports help organizations by providing proof to support their claims of billing errors in a timely manner.”

“We literally have problems on every bill we receive. Manually auditing wasn’t working. We found every kind of mistake,” said Jim Shriver, unified communications service director, Onepath Systems. “This TEM solution has restored our control over cost and helped us focus on growth and profit.”

RBO® TEM is the first expense management solution with revenue assurance built in. For customers using billing service company Rev.io, RBO® TEM also links every wholesale cost element from the likes of AT&T and Verizon with elements on all end-user bills to ensure that resellers get every service billed to the end customer. “Rev.io’s new REST API can be used with GSA’s RBO® TEM so our mutual clients can capture all of their earned revenue,” said Rev.io Vice President of Sales and Marketing Evan Rice.

Customer trials show that the average reseller captures an additional 34 percent of gross profit by eliminating billing errors from their carriers. Overbilling, coupled with underbilling resale customers, is a costly and common issue in telecommunications.

“Invoice and contract auditing is the source of over half of the expense and revenue recovery by a carrier. The current process used by most carriers, like reverse audits, is archaic and outdated. We believe we have a first for our industry in mid-market revenue assurance automation. For every reseller, I say, ‘it’s time to automate!,’” said Matt LaHood, chief executive officer, Global Strategic Accountants LLC.

GSA Reduces Mobile Carrier’s USF Liability  by Over $700,000 per Year!

About GSA

GSA is the leading North American Telecom Regulatory and Indirect Tax Compliance advisory and outsource provider. With over 14 years’ experience in the industry, GSA has performed regulatory reviews for telecommunications providers since its inception and is perhaps the most experienced with understanding guidelines surrounding federal and state regulatory and tax rules. Combined with our repositories of data on over 24,000 jurisdictions; GSA’s professionals bring their expertise to bare on all engagements.

About the Carrier

The mobile carrier had adapted their regulatory regimen from a previous business model and support method for rating tax and calculating regulatory liabilities. The largest of them being federal Universal Service Fund liability. Unfortunately for the carrier, assumptions regarding how their products should be rated were based on antiquated resources.

GSA performed a three level approach to the engagement. First, GSA identified the methods by which the carrier applied tax rating to their transactions. This research gave us details on how efficient and accurate the rating logic applied tax liability to the customers’ transactions.

Next, GSA rebuilt the revenue experience in our Tax Lab. GSA applied their knowledge of the customer’s product and sales goals to their revenue and modeled scenarios which achieved the best tax treatment. In doing so, GSA recognized that revenue recognition for the carrier along with their marketing materials did not reflect the proper offerings to achieve the optimal results. As a result, GSA and the carrier embarked on a full review of their terms and conditions and a re-application of revenue recognition methods to synchronize USF filing reports, profiled by GSA to be optimized.

The End Result

This outcome of the project led to a redesign of the customer’s point of sale (POS) and tax rating engine. Integral to that redesign were GSA’s optimization rules which synchronized the rating with the reporting of liabilities. A byproduct of the redesign was seamless automation of transaction data imported into the General Ledger for Revenue Recognition without manual manipulation. The outcome- our carrier ultimately reduced their USF liability by over $700,000 which was credited within the year of their annual report, creating an ROI of over 400% on the project.

Final Note

If you have manual processes involved in your tax and regulatory reporting, and (or) if you have older resources (advisors and systems); let GSA look at your reporting methods to see if there are ways to improve your bottom line.
